Brown Rice | Vahchef - VahRehVah

A traditional parsi disg which is made using caramelised onions and sugar which together impart a deep brown colour to this rice, This dish is traditionally served with Dhansak and Kachumbar salad in most Parsi homes.

Ingredients:
Ingredient Measure Units
Basmati Rice (soak the rice 30 minutes) 1 cup
whole garam masala (each) 2 gram
Peppercorns 5 Numbers
Bay leaves 3 Numbers
Onion 1 big
Salt To taste
Sugar 1 1/2 Tsp.
Water 2 cups
Oil 2 tbsp.

Directions -- Method:
1. Heat oil in a pan add whole garam masala, peppercorns, bay leaves onion slices, salt, cook the onions till it is brown in color.
2. And add sugar lightly caramelize it & mix it well, add water (1:2), to the boiling water add Basmati Rice put the lid on and let it cook for 5 minutes.
3. Then mix it once and again put the lid on and let it cook for some time in a slow flame and switch off the flame.
4. And rest it for 5 minute then serve it.
