Bengali Khichdi Recipe | Bhoger Khichudi | Navratri Special Recipe | MintsRecipes

Aaj main bana rahi hu Bhoger Khichudi, yani Bengali khichdi. Jo ki Navratri ke Ashtami wale din Bengal mei banaya jata hai. Kal Ashtami hai aur isse acha samay kya ho sakta hai is Khichdi ki recipe dalne ki. To chaliye dekhte hai Bengali recipe Bhoger Khichudi kaise banate hai.

Ingredients of Bhoger Khichuri
• 150 grams or 3/4 cup Gobindo bhog rice
• 75 grams 1/3 cup and 1 tbsp Moong dal
• 4 tbsp Refined oil
• 1 tbsp Ghee

Whole spices :
• 1-inch piece of cinnamon
• 2 pieces cloves
• 2 pieces cardamom
• 1 bay leaf
• 1 piece dry red chilly
• 1 tsp Garam masala powder
• 1 tsp Cumin seeds
• 2 medium sized Tomatoes ( roughly chopped)
• 1/2 cup Potato ( roughly chopped)
• 6 to 8 pieces green chilli
• 1 inch Ginger roughly chopped
• 3/4 tsp Turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
• Salt (as per your taste)
• 1-11/2 tsp Sugar (as per your taste)
• 1 tsp Red chilli powder
• 1/2 cup Green peas ( frozen)

How to make:
1. Put moong dal in a pan and dry roast for 5 to 6 minutes on medium low flame till it turns light brown in colour. keep stirring so that dal gets brown evenly. once roasted take out from the pan and keep aside.
2. Heat oil in the same pan, once the oil becomes hot add all the whole spices ( cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, dry red chilly, bay leaf) and saute for few seconds.
3. Now add cumin seeds and let it crackle and saute till it turns golden brown.
4. Add ginger, chopped potato, chopped tomatoes and saute for a minute on medium flame.
5. Add soaked rice( I have soaked rice with water before 15 minutes) and mix it well for 2 to 3 minutes.
6. Add roasted moong dal and again mix it well.
7. Add all the spices red chilly powder, turmeric powder and mix it well.
8. Add 3 cups of water and bring it to boil
9. Cover the lid and cook dal and rice for 10 minutes on medium-low flame.
10. After 10 minutes uncovered the lid and mix it well.
11. Add frozen peas, salt and sugar. Mix it well.
12. Add water as required if the mixture becomes thick I have added 2 cups of water.
13. Now cover the lid again and cook till rice and dal become soft.
14. Once done, switch off the flame, uncovered lid and add garam masala, ghee and cover the khichdi and let it stand for 5minutes for a nice flavour
15. After 5 minutes uncovered and bhoger khichudi is ready to serve.
16. Serve hot
