Apple pie slap chips - Foodies of SA

Apple pie slap chips with hot caramel dipping sauce.

Ingredients

3 Granny Smith apples
1 roll / sheet of puff pastry
2 table spoons of cinnamon (more or less to taste)
cup of sugar
Safari raisins
1 can Nestle Caramel treat (optional)
3 table spoons of butter

Method

1. Peel and then cut the apples into small slices.
2. Add the butter to a medium to high heated pan till melted.
3. Add in the chopped and peeled apples.
4. Let the apples cook for 2 or 3 minutes, then add the sugar and mix.
5. After a further 3 4 minutes add the cinnamon and raisins.
6. Cook for +- 10 more minutes, or until the apples are soft.
7. Take the mixture off the pan and allow to cool down.
8. Blend till the apple sauce becomes a paste like consistency.
9. Roll the pastry and cut it into two halfs.
10. Add the blended apple sauce onto one of the halfs of the puff pastry, use the back of a spoon to spread. Dont make this layer too thick!
11. Place the 2nd half of the puff pastry on top of this.
12. Use a pastry crimper or pizza cutter to cut the pastry into slap chips.
13. Baste with egg wash. (1 egg and a bit of water mixed up)
14. Bake for +- 10 minutes.
15. Serve with hot caramel treat or ice-cream!
