INGREDIENTS
Amla or Indian Gooseberries - 7-8
Green Chilies - 2-3
Tomatoes - 2
Curry Leaves - 1/4 cup
Coriander Seeds - 1 tbsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Fenugreek Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Pepper - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Chili Powder - 1/2 tsp
Dried chilies - 2-3
Asafoetida - a pinch
Salt - as needed
Oil - 1 tbsp

We have to boil 7-8 amla first

To a pan, add amla, 2-3 green chilies, 2 diced tomatoes, 1/4 cup curry leaves, 1 litre water and boil till amla turns soft

Lets prepare rasam masala in the meantime

To a pounder, add 1 tbsp coriander seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds, 1/2 tsp pepper and grind it into a powder

Rasam powder could also be used instead

Amla is cooked now since it is cracked.

Add the prepared rasam powder and mix

Add 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, salt to taste, a small jaggery piece and mix

Add cooked lentils, water as required, 1/2 tsp chili powder and mix

Simmer for a minute and sprinkle some coriander leaves on top

Lets prepare some tempering next

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan

Add 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 2-3 dried chilies, a pinch of asafoetida, curry leaves and fry

Add this tempering to the prepared amla lentil soup and mix

Tasty and healthy amla pappu charu is ready to serve!
