AMBE DAL

Ingredients

1 medium raw mango, peeled and grated
1 cup split Bengal gram (chana dal), soaked for 2 hours and drained
2 green chillies, finely chopped
1 cup scraped fresh coconut
1 medium cucumber, peeled and grated
1 tablespoon sugar
Salt to taste
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh coriander
2 teaspoons oil
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
½ teaspoon asafoetida
3 dried red chillies, broken
1 teaspoon turmeric powder

Method

1. Grind split Bengal gram and green chillies in a mixer to a
coarse mixture. Transfer into a mixing bowl.
2. Add coconut, cucumber and raw mango and mix well.
3. Add sugar, salt and coriander leaves and mix well.
4. For tempering, heat oil in a small non-stick pan, add mustard
seeds, asafoetida, red chillies and turmeric powder. Once the
mustard seeds splutter, add it to the mixture and mix well.
5. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve immediately.
